Medina Centrale Spring Festival kicks off

The Pearl-Qatar suburb comes alive with entertainment shows and fun-filled activities

Entertainment shows and fun-filled activities for families and children marked the opening of The Pearl-Qatar’s Medina Centrale Spring Festival on Thursday.

The four-day outdoor celebration, organised by United Development Company (UDC) running until April 7, aims to entice more Qatar residents and visitors to visit Medina Centrale and experience its unique offerings for all ages.

“We want people to enjoy the spring atmosphere here especially during this school break, and it is a good opportunity for them to take photos as well,” UDC executive director (Commercial) Abdulrahim al-Ibrahim told Gulf Times.

He noted that this event will further increase the football at Medina Centrale, known as a popular family and tourist destination in the country.

Besides the live stage performances, the festivity also features roving parades led by several performers and colourfully-dressed clowns and mascots who greet and entertain visitors.

Organisers have also erected unique attractions such as a flower tunnel, in addition to train rides, remote-control car racing, face painting, drawing activities, and a host of workshops.

Graffiti artists, and caricaturists, as well as illusionists, have also been invited to give the crowd “an array of flavours to savour” while they roam around the venue.

“We organised similar festivals and activities in the past at various locations at The Pearl-Qatar, which were highly successful, but this Festival at Medina Centrale is one of the biggest,” al-Ibrahim said.

He noted that a food festival was held at Porto Arabia’s Amphitheatre, which attracted a large number of families and food enthusiasts.

It also brought together renowned local, regional and international chefs under one roof.

Early this year, UDC had hosted the Qanat Qarnevale for the second time across various sites at Qanat Quartier, providing festival-goers with arts, music and leisure activities.

The Medina Centrale Spring Festival is UDC’s latest event promoting The Pearl-Qatar as a one-stop destination for shopping, dining, and leisurely living.

Al-Ibrahim said they are also working closely with the Qatar National Tourism Council to further strengthen the country’s position internationally as a popular luxury and leisure destination.

According to UDC, retail outlets at Medina Centrale are expecting an influx of people in the coming days who will be spending quality time with their families and friends throughout the festival.
